Eastern Aleutian Tribes is pleased to announce that our own Riza Bendixen has been recognized by the Community Health Aide Board and received the "Rising Star" award out of all of Alaska's Community Health Aides. Here is what Cameron Spivey, FNP wrote about Riza: "Riza always comes to work with a positive attitude, energized, and ready for the next challenge. Her doc**entation and verbal reports reflect diligence, attention to detail, professionalism, and a thorough, appropriate assessment of each patient. She employs critical thinking and a***ytical skills beyond what would be expected of a health aide with her education and experience, but always practices within the scope of her position. There have been many occasions in which I have literally described her to colleagues as a rising star." Congratulations Riza, we are very proud of you!

We welcome Delores Kochuten, “Doll” to EAT’s King Cove Clinic Staff. Doll is our Clinical Information Clerk (CIC), she was raised in Belkofski, AK, and still considers it her home, and she lived many years in False Pass prior to moving to King Cove in 2002. Delores has 4 children and 3 grandchildren. She spends most of her time with her grandchild who lives in King Cove and enjoys traveling to Anchorage to see her grandchildren who live there. She loves to spend time with family, skiff riding, berry picking, hiking, and boat riding, taking steam baths and eating subsistence foods from the land she lives in. Prior to working for EAT, Doll worked for 12 years in the Environmental Department of the Belkofski Tribe. Welcome aboard Doll!

Eastern Aleutian Tribes was proud to sponsor 12 high school students from around the region at a job shadowing fair on April 19, 2013. The students, accompanied by four teachers, spent a week in Anchorage and visited the Aleutian Housing Authority, University of Alaska - Anchorage, Aleutian Island Community Development Association, Aleutian/Pribilof Islands Association, AVTEC, and EAT. During their time at EAT, the students rotated throughout the various departments, and learned what various employees do to perform their jobs, and what it took to get them there. After the job shadowing, the students, teachers, and employees shared a luncheon, and Edgar Smith, Director of Operations said a few words of welcome and appreciation. Tara Ferguson, Director of Quality Improvement and Interim Health Director urged the students to look into health care as a field of study, and stated that it was one of the most rewarding jobs one could have. The group was joined by Community Health Aides Nikki Hoblet of False Pass and Sandy Lopez of Cold Bay, who were in Anchorage for the CHAP Forum.
