We are grateful for the four events that our Board Member Eunhee Sumner has organized this month. Here was the 3rd group on Friday the 10th!     Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) hosted a Thanksgiving Luncheon for youth, families, and elders at ACRS’ main office. More than 250 individuals attended, including many who had no other place to celebrate the holiday. 15 volunteers and staff served a full Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings, with delicious Asian food. This wonderful community event provided meals and hope for all who attended.     We are excited to announce that the Southeast Asian Young Men's Program had two films selected for screening at the Seattle Asian American Film Festival! "My Father's Cambodia" and "A Clean UA."     A big thanks to Jerry Lee, Charlese Jackson, Yale Wong and all their friends who together brought 400+ roast chickens and Lop Cheung (Chinese sausage) to the ACRS Food Bank today. They also brought a car full of toys to give to the kids! ACRS and our clients are very appreciative. Close to 600 people lined up down the block.

    May 2013 VOLUNTEER of the MONTH Bri Kame AmeriCorps Community Advocate/Volunteer Coordinator Aging and Adult Services Bri acted both as a community advocate and as a representative of Asian Counseling and Referral Service. She regularly attended community gatherings and events. She spoke to the mission and programs of our agency at community centers, health fairs, and monthly meetings. The groups with whom she connected with have been the Vietnamese Friendship Association, Healthy Aging Partnership, Vietnamese Senior Association, Club Bamboo, Rainier Valley Community Center, University of Washington, and Washington Connection. She brings information on services and volunteer opportunities to the public. Bri made many relationships with different agencies and made connections with many resources in the past year. She brought information and assistance to a number of communities including: Vietnamese, Japanese, Filipino, South Asian, Korean, and Chinese Elders. Specifically she connected ACRS to the Beacon Hill Food Forest, Seattle Public Utilities Discount Program, Century Link Services, American Heart Association, King County Nutrition Education, King County Food Handler's Classes, Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Senior Services Transportation, Farmer's Market Vouchers, Social Security, and Medicare Seminars. -Miguel Saldin Senior Nutrition and Assistance Manager Aging and Adult Services Department When Bri walked into the Club Bamboo kitchen, with her gentle and easy way, all of the Club Bamboo staff lit up with smiles. Bri became a person whom we can rely on for back up and leadership when there is an event, if we are shorthanded with staff, or if we are in need of translation.
